Morrisons makes its debut into school clothing essentials at a uniform price of £2

School holidays can be an expensive time for parents tackling the task of buying new school essentials.  But from today, supermarket Morrisons is launching its first ever primary school clothing essentials range for going back to school, at the unique flat price of £2 – whatever the item, whatever the size. Literally one price fits all.

Unlike other retailers that increase prices according to age, Morrisons understands that kids come in all shapes and sizes and is making the price of its school clothing exactly the same, no matter what the size or item. The range includes school essentials such as shirts, polo’s, trousers , and skirts as well as plimsolls and socks. The range is specifically for nursery and primary school aged children, aged three to ten.

Research commissioned by the Department for Children, Schools and Families found that the average parent is struggling to buy everything that their child needs for school due to the prohibitive costs of  uniforms and other extras like school trips and stationery. On average parents spend around £683 a year funding in additional costs for primary school children and £1,195 on secondary pupils, often outlaying for the majority of these costs at the start of the school year, after expensive school holidays.*

It’s not just about the cost however, shopping for kids clothing can be awkward as items need to be durable and robust to withstand the daily wear and tear that goes with being young. That’s why Morrisons spoke to parents to see exactly what they needed from their children’s school clothes and incorporated their feedback into the designs. So, as part of this new range, you can expect to see Teflon-coated skirts and trousers to ensure that new garments are hardwearing and stain resistant, whether facing grass stains from the football field or pots of paint in the art room.

Morrisons School Essentials Buyer, Rachel Bainbridge, commented: “This time of year is tough on parents, which is why we’ve made sure that we are offering our very best prices on kids’ clothes. At £2 per item, cost-conscious parents can get five pieces for a tenner - and you don’t need an A* in Maths to work that out!”

Rachel added: “Any mum will tell you - you can never be sure when kids might have a growth spurt, so buying clothing can be a nightmare. We’ve deliberately taken the stress out of back to school preparations, providing high quality, low cost replacements when trousers and skirts suddenly don’t fit overnight. The only extra that you’ll need is an apple for the teacher!”

The range launches in Scottish stores today (2nd August) and further stores in the rest of the UK on 9th August while stocks last.
