We are the UK’s fourth largest food retailer with over 500 stores. Our business is mainly food and grocery – the weekly shop. Uniquely we source and process most of the fresh food that we sell though our own manufacturing facilities, giving us close control over provenance and quality; and we have more people preparing more food in store than any other retailer.
Every week twelve million customers pass through our doors and 125,000 colleagues across the business work hard each day to deliver great service to them. With competitive prices and hundreds of special offers, we are proud to save our customers money every day.

Fit for the Future
May 2014 – “I’m Cheaper” announcement
Lower 1,200 prices as we become permanently cheaper – cutting prices, not cutting corners. Online food deliveries begin in London.
March 2014 – £1bn investment in price and proposition
Morrisons announces a £1bn investment over three years to lower prices and make our stores even easier to shop in. Kiddicare and investment in Fresh Direct to be sold following our successful partnership with Ocado.
February 2014 - Online food comes to Yorkshire
Online deliveries begin in Yorkshire.
January 2014 - Online food deliveries begin
Using technology developed by Ocado, Morrisons launches their much-anticipated online food deliveries service, with the first home delivery services available to homes across the Midlands.
December 2013 - 500th store opens
Yet another exciting milestone is reached as Morrisons opens its 500th store in Hoddeson, Hertfordshire.
July 2013 – Banana ripening factory acquired
Morrisons announces the acquisition of a banana-ripening factory in Boston, Lincolnshire, giving it full control over the ripening process, meaning greater consistency in the quality of its bananas.
June 2013 – “Employer of the Year” – again and again
Morrisons wins ‘Employer of the Year’ for the fourth time in a row at The Grocer’s Gold Awards ceremony.
May 2013 – Ground-breaking deal with Ocado
Morrisons agrees a ground-breaking deal with Ocado to offer a state-of-the-art food delivery service focused on affordable fresh food.
April 2013 – Trevor Strain appointed Group Finance Director
Trevor Strain is promoted to the Management Board to succeed Richard Pennycook. Trevor joined Morrisons in 2009 from Tesco.
April 2013 - Helping young people into work
Morrisons launches the ‘Our Club’ programme to help unemployed young people get back into work. The programme employs techniques used in sports coaching to help young people develop work skills.
March 2012 - iPad app
Featuring lifestyle and travel articles, as well as interactive recipe cards, Morrisons becomes the first supermarket to launch its magazine as an iPad app.
March 2012 – Seafood manufacturing in Grimsby
Morrisons announces the launch of its own seafood manufacturing business in Grimsby. The investment means Morrisons will grow its seafood offering and provide its customers with fresh fish at affordable prices.
February 2012 – Meat processing site in Winsford acquired
Morrisons announces the acquisition of Winsford, a meat processing site in Cheshire, further strengthening the site’s manufacturing capabilities.
December 2011 – ‘M Savers’ range launched
Proving that budget doesn’t have to mean lesser quality, Morrisons introduces low cost food brand ‘M Savers’ to stores nationwide.
September 2011 - Willow Green Regional Distribution Centre opens
Morrisons opens its Willow Green Regional Distribution Centre in Bridgwater, serving over 60 stores in the South West and delivering greater transport efficiency. Willow Green also includes environmentally friendly features such as solar panels, rain water recycling, LED lighting and recycling points across all areas of the site.
June 2011 – Flower World acquired
Morrisons announces the acquisition of Flower World in Derby, as it aims to become the supermarket of choice for fresh flowers.
Different and Better than Ever
June 2011 - First M local store
Morrisons hits another landmark with the opening of the first M Local convenience store in Ilkley, Yorkshire.
February 2011 - Largest Apprenticeship provider in the UK
Morrisons underline its commitment to help tackle youth unemployment by announcing that it would train more than 12,000 apprentices, making the company the largest provider of apprenticeships in the UK.
November 2010 - Best for Bubbly
Bubbles all round! Which? magazine ranks Morrisons as the best supermarket for champagne after comparing a selection of supermarket own brand champagnes to three leading champagne brands.
June 2010 – ‘Employer of the Year’
Morrisons wins the inaugural award for ‘Employer of the Year’ at The Grocer’s annual awards. The award recognised the importance of the Morrisons Academy, in particular.
February 2010 – Dalton Philips appointed Chief Executive
Dalton Philips takes the helm as Morrisons new CEO. The Irishman joins after gaining global experience working in food retailing, including roles at Walmart and Loblaws in Canada.
February 2010 - Wine Educator of the Year
Morrisons becomes the first UK company to be awarded the Riedel Trophy for ‘Wine & Spirit Educator of the Year’.
August 2009 - Sittingbourne Regional Distribution Centre opens
Morrisons opens its Sittingbourne Regional Distribution Centre to serve stores in the South East and create 1,000 jobs.
A Greener Supermarket
May 2009 - "Great Taste Less Waste"
Morrisons launches a campaign offering advice on how families could save money by reducing waste. The campaign comes as a response to a survey (commissioned by Morrisons) that’s shows 90% of people in Britain store fresh food in the wrong place.
March 2009 - Retailer of the Year
It’s another great accolade for Morrisons as it’s voted 'Retailer of the Year' at the Oracle Retail Week Awards for the second year running.
September 2008 - Hat-trick for Morrisons
Morrisons becomes the first retailer to win all three major retailer awards in one year after picking up the prestigious 'Supermarket of the Year' award at the Retail Industry Awards. This followed awards for ‘Grocer of the Year’ and ‘Retailer of the Year’.
June 2008 - Grocer of the Year
Morrisons receives ‘Grocer of the Year’ award at The Grocer’s Gold Awards ceremony.
June 2008 - UK's greenest supermarket
It’s a great day for the Morrisons store in Kidderminster as it officially becomes the UK’s greenest supermarket. The store received a top rating from the environmental assessment system BREEAM.
May 2008 - Reusable bag initiative
Helping to make a real difference to the environment, Morrisons launches a campaign to cut carrier bag use. 10 million reusable carrier bags are given away to customers with the aim of cutting plastic bag use by 50 million per month.
