The Board of Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC today announces the appointment of Penny Hughes as a Non Executive Director of the Group. Penny will take up her new position on 1 January 2010.
 
Penny is currently a Non Executive Director of Cable & Wireless Plc and Home Retail Group plc, the president of the Advertising Association and a trustee of the British Museum and she has recently accepted a Non Executive Directorship of Royal Bank of Scotland. Her previous experience includes 10 years with Coca-Cola ultimately as president of Coca-Cola GB & Ireland and various non executive roles including Body Shop International plc, GAP Inc, Reuters plc, Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, Trinity Mirror plc and Vodafone plc.
 
Sir Ian Gibson, Non Executive Chairman of Morrisons, said:  “I am pleased to be welcoming Penny Hughes to the Group.  Her extensive boardroom experience and business expertise will further strengthen our existing team.”    

Penny Hughes said: "I am looking forward to grocery retailing and to contributing to the success of Morrisons. I am delighted to be joining the Morrisons team.”
 
In relation to the appointment, it is confirmed that there are no further details to be disclosed under paragraphs 9.6.13 (1) to (6) of the Listing Rules.
 
The Board also announces that with immediate effect Philip Cox, who joined the Board as a Non Executive Director in April 2009 and chairs the Board’s Audit Committee, will become a member of the Board’s Remuneration Committee.
