Morrisons is passionate about food and we want our customers to enjoy it in the best possible condition. Packaging is important to ensure this.
However we will only use what is necessary - excessive packaging is not only a waste of resources, but a waste of money.
When food is thrown away it costs households money and can damage the environment, releasing harmful greenhouse gases as it decomposes. Smart packaging, which protects food in transit and extends shelf life, is good for consumers and good for the environment.
We aim to ensure our packaging is only there to protect, preserve and display the product, and does not present an unnecessary environmental burden. As a result, in recent years we have made significant reductions in packaging without compromising product quality.
We continue to support ambitious industry targets for further reductions in the carbon impact of packaging by reducing weight, increasing recycled content and improving recycling rates wherever possible.
The Packaging (Essential Requirements) Regulations 2015 set out a legal framework for the development and management of packaging.
