The Spain Ethical Trade Forum is a collaborative initiative established in 2015 to drive improvement in working conditions and labour rights throughout the Spanish fresh produce sector. The forum is funded and supported by 9 UK supermarkets and several major importers and provides resources, training and guidance for growers in the key regions of Huelva, Murcia and Almeria. Morrisons joined the Forum in 2019 and will sit on their Governance Group for the 2020/21 financial year.
Events are held regularly throughout the year within different regions of Spain, bringing together local members to discuss ongoing activity in working groups and hear from external stakeholders. Last year speakers included representatives from Universidad de Almeria, Association of Organizations of Producers of Fruit and Vegetables of Almeria (Coexphal), Consortium of Entities for Integral Action with Migrants (Cepaim), Labour Inspection Office for Murcia and the trade union Confederación Sindical de Comisiones Obreras (CCOO).
Ongoing projects include the creation of an anti-harassment protocol for implementation in member supply chains and best practice guidance for accommodation standards and the use of temporary employment agencies.
