Morrisons Supports Fairtrade Fortnight

Morrisons recognises the importance and benefits of selling Fairtrade and as such has expanded the range of Fairtrade products available in its stores. By selling Fairtrade products it helps to ensure improved working conditions, sustainability, and fair terms for farmers and workers in developing countries.

Morrisons is one of the only retailers to introduce Fairtrade Ice cream, in two delicious flavours; Fairtrade Arabica Coffee and Fairtrade Madagascan Vanilla are now available in stores*.

The ingredients used in Morrisons Fairtrade Arabica Coffee ice cream comes from sustainable farms in Papua New Guinea. The hand picked coffee beans have a chocolate, nutty flavour with a fruity finish making them the perfect ingredient for this ice cream.

Morrisons Fairtrade Madagascan Vanilla ice cream is aromatic with a sweet vanilla taste. The vanilla extract and seeds in the ice cream come from Fairtrade farms in Analanjirofo, Madagascar.

To further develop the existing Fairtrade fresh produce range, Morrisons were the first retailer to sell Fairtrade Melons in the majority of its stores**.  The juicy Fair-trade melon ensures a price return for small producers in the developing world to enable sustainable production. The delicious melon complements the range of fresh, organic, Fairtrade produce already available.

Morrisons is supporting Fairtrade Fortnight, which this year runs from the 22nd February to the 7th March, with a 25% off promotional offers on its Fairtrade products including produce, grocery, wines and foliage.

Harriet Lamb, Executive Director, the Fairtrade Foundation, said; “It’s great to see Morrisons support for Fairtrade Fortnight, making it easier than ever for their customers to support for farmers and workers in developing countries, and to join in the Big Swap when we hope people will make one million and one swaps to Fairtrade!”

Giles Leverton, Morrisons Ice Cream buyer said: “We’re delighted that we can now offer our customers even more Fair-trade options. By buying products that carry the independent FAIRTRADE Mark, customers can be confident that they’re helping producers in developing countries achieve a better quality of life.”
